Prof. Samadhi Vishwanath Rajapaksa graduated with honors from Vitebsk State Medical University in Belarus, where he excelled in medicine and the arts, earning the Yuri Gagarin Diploma for promoting cultural exchange between Sri Lanka and Russia.
As the founder and current president of the Cancer Care Association Sri Lanka, Dr. Rajapaksa has led palliative care initiatives since 2003, including the creation of the country’s first home-based palliative care network and the CCA Hospice, collaborating closely with the Sri Lankan Ministry of Health to develop public policies in this field. He is also the founder of the College of Palliative Medicine of Sri Lanka and serves as Chairman of the Palliative Care Trust, coordinating training programs in palliative care and biostatistics for physicians, nurses, and dentists.
Holding a Master’s in Buddhist Ayurvedic Counseling and a Ph.D. in Buddhist Philosophy, along with an MBA focused on health services management, Dr. Rajapaksa combines clinical, ethical, and managerial expertise to enhance comfort-focused treatments and quality of life for terminally ill patients.
His research includes oral hygiene protocols and nutritional interventions for oncology patients, published in international journals and presented at conferences such as the World Congress of the World Association for Hospice & Palliative Care, solidifying his reputation as a global leader in palliative care.
